Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil's 38th President (2019–2022), traveled to the United States two days before Lula's inauguration and remained in Orlando, Florida, for over three months before returning to Brazil in March 2023. In November 2024, the Federal Police indicted Bolsonaro and 36 allies for an alleged coup attempt, including accusations of involvement in a plot to assassinate Lula, Alckmin, and Moraes. Bolsonaro denies all charges and claims he is a target of political persecution. His passport has been held by the STF since March 2023.
